What makes brand photography different from headshots?

Brand photography is relatively new in the world of visual branding. And many discerning business owners are now taking their branding to the next level. Working with a professional photographer to create a photoshoot to tell the story of your business can make a huge difference in how you’re seen by your target market.

So how is it different from a headshot?

A headshot is simply focused on you. I usually describe it as “a picture of your head,” but it can actually be head and shoulders, waist-up, or even full-length.

Brand photoshoots include headshots, but we don’t stop there. We work to tell the story of what you do and why you do it! And that includes all the detail shots, lifestyle shots, photos of you in action, you with your products, and a peek behind the scenes. Because there are so many possibilities, we work to customize your session to reflect you as a business owner, the type of business, and the message you want to communicate about your brand through images.

Because brand photography sessions are waaay more customized than headshots, our pre-shoot planning sessions are more involved and in depth. We consider many factors from location, outfits, and colors to your brand style and messaging. We help you decide how to best translate your brand into images that you can use on social media, your website, and in advertising. And since each brand is different, each session is completely customized.

These sessions differ from most portrait sessions in that we include the digital files and a commercial license to use the images in your marketing. You will invest more into a brand photoshoot than you would in a headshot session, simply because you’re getting a wider variety of images that you can use in so many ways. Think blog, social media, website, print marketing, and many more! And because we spend so much time planning the session, you’ll end up with a ton of useful images (not a folder full of pictures you don’t know what to do with!). The end goal of a brand photoshoot is to help you profit more from your business. So think of these images as a true investment in your brand.

When was the last time you had a brand photoshoot? If it’s been a while, we’d love to help! Schedule your Brand Impact Audit today.
